Ude-hishigi-hiza-gatame 腕挫膝固 (Knee Arm Lock)

Classification: Katame-waza → Kansetsu-waza (Joint Lock Techniques)
Target Joint: Elbow
Type: Straight arm lock (extension)

Description

Ude-hishigi-hiza-gatame is a straight arm lock that uses the knee as the primary pressure point to control and hyperextend uke’s elbow. It is typically applied from a top position when uke’s arm is exposed. The name means “arm-crushing knee-hold”.

How to Apply

  1. Secure uke’s left arm, typically when he is lying face up.

  2. Pin uke’s left upper arm using your left hand or by trapping it under your armpit.

  3. Place your right knee (or left, depending on position) directly against the elbow joint of uke’s extended arm.

  4. Apply downward pressure with your knee while stabilising the rest of uke’s body.

  5. This creates a lever that hyperextends the arm at the elbow, forcing uke to submit.
