Tsukkomi-jime 突込絞 (Thrust Choke)
Classification: Katame-waza → Shime-waza (Strangulation Techniques)
Tsukkomi-jime is a strangulation technique where tori creates pressure by thrusting one hand deep into uke’s collar, driving upward pressure against the carotid artery on one side of the neck, while the other hand pulls the opposite lapel to reinforce the choke.
How to Apply
-
While controlling uke from above (uke on their back), insert your right hand deep into uke’s left collar, thumb inside and fingers outside.
-
Press the edge of your right hand firmly against the right side of uke’s neck.
-
With your left hand, grip uke’s right lapel and pull it diagonally toward your own body.
-
Keep your weight low to maintain control, without leaning forward.
Biomechanics
This technique operates as a lever-based shime-waza:
-
The right hand drives upward pressure into one side of uke’s neck (F1).
-
The left hand pulls the opposite lapel inward (F2), creating compression across the neck.
-
The fixed collar acts as a fulcrum (Re), and the opposing directions generate efficient vascular constriction, resulting in submission.
