04. Hadaka-jime 裸絞

Hadaka-jime 裸絞 (Naked Choke)

Classification: Katame-waza → Shime-waza (Strangulation Techniques)

Hadaka-jime is a strangle technique that does not use the judogi, making it one of the few “naked” chokes in judo. Pressure is applied directly to uke’s neck using the forearm and wrist without gripping the collar.

How to Apply

  1. From behind uke, slide your right forearm across the front of his neck, palm facing down.

  2. Position your left hand behind uke’s neck or shoulder and lock both hands together—typically in a palm-to-palm grip or figure-four configuration.

  3. Press your right forearm into uke’s throat while pulling with your left hand.

  4. At the same time, use your shoulder to press uke’s head slightly inward, reducing space and increasing the pressure.

  5. The choke is completed with a scissoring action of the arms and shoulder rotation.

Biomechanics

Hadaka-jime functions as a direct constriction choke (Re). Tori generates pressure using both arms—one pushing across the neck and the other pulling to anchor the force. The neck is compressed between the forearm and the biceps/triceps structure. The addition of shoulder pressure eliminates escape space and maximises constriction.
